A Beach of a Day!
On the 22nd June 2018 over 650 girls (years 9 and 10) and in excess of 57 teams from schools across the region arrived at Longsands beach, Tynemouth for the eagerly awaited annual Girls Beach Rugby Festival 2018.
This touch rugby tournament, financed via Northumberland Rugby Union and organised and run by the staff of the RFU, is a fine example of the successful teamwork between these two organisations.
With the growing popularity of females taking part in rugby, this day reaches out to a wide audience with the aim of encouraging more girls to join their local clubs. All who attended appeared to gain a great deal from the event, with the focus being on engagement, teamwork and enjoyment of the game.
Carl Cockburn (PE teacher/cover supervisor) at Whitley Bay High School said “on what was a lovely summer’s day we headed down to Tynemouth Longsands with great enthusiasm and anticipation for what was bound to be a great day out. On the bus back to school all of the students expressed what a fantastic experience they had and were already looking forward to the season ahead.”
All at NRU would like to thank those involved in making this rewarding and fun day happen!
