The Northumberland County Girls teams at U15 and U18 participated in a new festival of rugby format last weekend in a festival held at Tynedale RFC.
The format saw the girls compete against Durahm and Cumbria playing 15-aside; 7-aside and X Rugby; the latter being a new format introduced this sesason by the RFU.
The weather was great and the dry conditions encouraged some open rugby as the U18s convincingly won both their 15-aside games, preventing both opponents from scoring a single try.
Our U15 team lost narrowly to Durham 22-24 and then played Cumbria to record a 28-5 victory.
The Counties then competed against each other in the new formats with mixed results for the Northumberland teams. Our U18 team remained unbeaten in the 7s, scoring 50 points in two games and only conceding twice.
A fantastic afternoon was superbly rounded off with a presentation by Tricia Arnold of Patricia J Arnold & Co Ltd, Chartered Accountants, who have kindly sponsored the new kit holdalls for the Northumberland U15 and U18 girls. Speaking about the sponsorship, Tricia said "it is my goal to support both girls and young women to fulfill their potential in whatever field they choose." All at Northumberland Rugby Union are very grateful and appreciative of their support.
Our thanks must also go to Tynedale RFC for hosting the event and to the referees who supported the teams throughout the afternoon.
The Girls County teams next compete on Sunday 10th March versus Cumbria and Durham with the event being hosted by Ryton RFC.
