John Reid has undertaken immense service for Northumberland Rugby Union over many years, so it is fitting that he is awarded the great honor of receiving Honorary Life Membership of Northumberland Rugby Union.
In 1984 he joined the General Committee, representing Whitley Bay Rockliff RFC. He was involved in Senior County selection for the next four decades due to his extensive knowledge of rugby and to his unwavering commitment to Northumberland. Throughout this period he was also Chair of Governance ably guiding NRU through many initiatives to ensure that Government legislation and RFU Regulations were appropriately implemented.
John was President of Northumberland from 1999-2000.
He also led support for several charities, particularly RFU Wooden Spoon Society, which fund-raises for disabled and disadvantaged children, and the RFU Injured Players Foundation which supports players who have had catastrophic spinal cord or traumatic brain injury.
Fortunately John will continue to support and assist NRU and, in particular Governance, with legal advice.
