As part of the legacy programme for the England v Italy game on the 6th Sept at SJP, an initiative has been developed called #backinthegame, with the aim of encouraging ex-players to get involved again with their local club. Graham Crozier has taken the lead on this initiative and has organised The Ian Douglas Memorial Festival, being held at Northern RFC on Sun, 25 Aug. Teams confirmed so far are Northern, Gosforth, Tynedale, Percy Park and Morpeth, and hopefully Ponteland. The whole day will be based around fun and enjoyment with a big focus on getting the players back together and rekindling old friendships and catching up with each other, which will hopefully attract some back into the game, either as players or volunteers. Post-games there will be a BBQ and of course a few beers! If any coaches wish to organise and get a team back together and be involved, please don’t be shy and let’s get more teams and ages involved and make the day bigger! If you’d like more info about how to get involved or would like to sponsor the BBQ, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you can’t play, it’d be great to see you there supporting!
