The Role
The role is a volunteer position for an initial term of three years with an option for a further two consecutive terms, equal to nine years as a maximum tenure.
Responsibilities
The appointee will be expected to –
To instigate and promote a strategic plan to provide effective and dynamic leadership with the overarching aim of developing and increasing the profile of Women and Girls Rugby in Northumberland.
To support the coaching and playing of Women and Girls Rugby in Northumberland across clubs, schools and higher education institutions, raising the standard of organisation, coaching and playing and increasing both playing and coaching numbers.
To assume responsibility for driving the strategic direction of Women and Girls Rugby in Northumberland including age grade, adult and representative rugby in clubs, schools and higher education establishments, within the 15 a side contact game and any and all variations, such a 10’s, 7’s, Touch, Walking Rugby and T1.
To create, lead and foster a high-performance level coaching system with a network of qualified and inspirational coaches at all levels across the Constituent Body.
To act as the lead for Women and Girls Coaching and Coach Development in Northumberland RFU working within the CB’s Strategic Plan.
To set up and develop processes to identify, recruit, develop and retain players through a high-quality rugby experience.
To implement processes across the CB to ensure a safe, enjoyable and welcoming environment for all players, coaches, referees and supporters by ensuring full understanding of, belief in, and adherence to, the RFU’s Core TREDS values.
To establish a playing philosophy for representative rugby that recognises team strengths and motivates players to excel.
To establish and oversee any sub-committees or working groups, as deemed necessary to ensure the key objectives of the CB Strategic Plan are met and exceeded.
To manage and operate a Budget as agreed with Northumberland County Rugby’s Board of Directors.
Key Relationships
The Director of Women and Girls Rugby will report to the Chair of Northumberland County Rugby Ltd.
The appointed Director will also liaise with their Management Board / Executive Team when appointed, Team Managers, fellow Directors in Northumberland, as well as clubs, coaches, coaching bodies and local authorities both within the CB and further afield where and when necessary and, of course, the RFU and local delivery team.
The Director will receive, evaluate and, where necessary, act upon, reports from respective age groups and/or representative Rugby Chairs where/when appointed, having established a Committee structure and management team as considered appropriate.
Summary
The role of Director of Women and Girls Rugby is a new and high-profile role within the CB.
The successful candidate will need to be hard working, motivated, organised and enthusiastic to take full advantage of the anticipated huge growth in playing numbers across Women and Girls Rugby in particular, and the game as a whole, which will be afforded by the Women’s Rugby World Cup Finals being held in England and the continuing success of the Red Roses.
