RFU Special General Meeting Update
With regard to speculation around the CB stance and voting position relating to a possible vote of no confidence in the chief executive of the RFU.
We would take this opportunity to remind the clubs in membership of Northumberland that at our recent General Meetings and our last Board meeting at Morpeth, our position was made clear. The RFU has commissioned an independent review by Freshfields and has undertaken a Governance review. Rather than rely on press speculation and half facts, we have been clear in that we would await the release of these reports whilst taking the opportunity to attend either the in-person or virtual roadshows that are currently taking place. The Freshfields report will be released to the RFU Council on 20th February and to the wider game shortly afterwards. Sir Bill Beaumont released an update yesterday, 12th February 2025, that we are sharing on the Northumberland website.
Once we have all of the information available to us, the Board will discuss and agree our voting position that we will share to clubs.
We would also encourage club secretaries and executive teams to contact Penny Stewart, our RFU Council Representative, if they require clarification of any sort. Penny will be releasing a statement outlining her own voting position shortly.
