RFU Special General Meeting
As you know, a Special General Meeting has been scheduled on 27th March, instigated originally by the Rugby Football Referees Union and some Championship clubs, now calling themselves the Whole Game Union.
The SGM involves voting on two resolutions, of which full details have been received by all clubs.
There have been a couple of queries around how the CB intend to vote (the CB is considered to be a club and has one vote). Our initial response was to await the feedback from the nationwide roadshows and the findings of the independent Fresh Fields report and to consider these alongside the various communications from the WGU and the responses they received.
The Board has discussed our position on a number of occasions, and at the Board meeting on Monday 3rd March, we unanimously agreed to vote as follows:
Resolution 1 – AGAINST
Resolution 2 – FOR
I have advised the RFU that we have given our proxy to our RFU Council Representative, Penny Stewart, who will attend the SGM in person.
It is of course up to each club to consider there position and vote accordingly, however, I can advise that the northern CB’s (Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Durham), all appear to be aligned to the Northumberland position.
Please contact Penny or myself if you have any queries.
