Dave Reed appointed as Head Coach of Northumberland U16 Girls DPP programme
Northumberland Rugby are delighted to announce the first of the new coaching and management appointments in the Women and Girls game for 24/25.
Director of Rugby Ian Moralee has appointed Dave Reed as head coach of the U16 DPP girls pathway. Ian said “We are delighted that Dave has made the decision to join this important development programme. Dave has coached virtually every age group in his 29-year coaching career with Northumberland and has worked with some amazing coaches and players during this time. Some of the players have gone onto represent England at various levels including Toby Flood, Will Welch, Alex Tait and Aaron Hall to name a few.
Dave also spent 4 years as North of England U18 Head Coach and Newcastle Falcons U18 Coach, before taking up the role of England U18 Assistant Coach where he spent time working with players who have become well known internationals.
In 2011, Dave was promoted to Head Coach of England U18’s Counties which culminated in them winning the Tri Nations Championship against France and Ireland in 2015. When Dave left his England role, Stuart Lancaster wrote to Dave saying “you should be proud of your achievements and the environment you create to develop so many young players.”
After coaching England Dave was appointed head coach of the North U20’s and enjoyed an excellent record of being unbeaten for the next 4 years. During that time 27 North players were selected to represent England – a record no other division has beaten or equalled.
Dave also spent two successful seasons with Team Northumbria Woman guiding them to two consecutive BUCS finals at Twickenham. That team contained future internationals such as Abbie Ward, Zoe Alcroft, Jo Brown of England as well as Catie Mattison and Lisa Coburn of Scotland.
These days Dave can still be found coaching Ponteland men and Rockcliff Little Roses. Despite his success in the higher echelons of the game Dave’s biggest passion is developing players in grass roots rugby.
Dave works at UK Coaching as Partnership Development Manager and Coach Developer looking after Sport Coaches and Coaching workforces for 20 or so National Governing Bodies.
