Vacancies – Head Coach and Assistant Coaches – U20s Men
Northumberland Rugby is looking to appoint a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the U20’s Jason Leonard Championship campaign for season 24/25. The principle aim of this role is to provide high quality coaching to community and university-based players to enable them to perform at their optimum level.
This is a voluntary role. It would suit an individual looking to develop their existing coaching practise and continue to take advantage of the development opportunities in the County representative environment. The County are open to offering further support to successful applicants to help them develop if this would be of interest.

Dates:
The U20 programme is expected to run from January (assessment and training) and initially through to May. Training will take place between these times and Group games in the Jason Leonard Championship are scheduled for the 15th March, 29th March, 10th May and 24th May. Should the team progress from the Group further games will be played on the 7th and 21st June. Coaches must be available for all dates.
Key Requirements and Responsibilities
- England Rugby Coaching Award/Level Two.
- Ability to plan and deliver high quality coaching in a shorter time frame than normal club season.
- Lead and work as part of a rugby coaching team.
- Develop meaningful relationships with fellow coaches, team manager and players.
- Demonstrable experience of coaching both forwards and backs and strong bias towards player centred coaching.
- Demonstrates a track record of personal coach development and developing practise in others.
- Ability to provide succinct actionable feedback to players to continue development.
- Creates an environment that balances player development and experience with team performance.
- Upholds the values of Northumberland RFU.
- Will complete the RFU Headcase online learning and Play it Safe workshop before or upon appointment.
- Committed to block of training and fixtures in 2024/25 season.
Desirable
- England Rugby Advanced Coaching Award/Level 3 (or working towards).
- Solid knowledge of the Representative Rugby environment
- Relationships with clubs/universities that contribute players to this team.
Duration
Two seasons, subject to annual review, to enable the programme to have some continuity and build on previous seasons.
