Northumberland RFU were delighted to award Ken Fraser Life Membership of the County at the recent General Meeting at Tynedale.

Ken started his playing career at Inverness Royal Academy and the moved South to begin teaching at Morpeth High School in 1972 – and joined Morpeth Rugby Club.

He played First XV rugby for twelve seasons taking the field on 257 occasions and captained the Club between 1982 and 1984.

After Ken’s playing career ended he became involved with club administration – first occupying the position of Team Secretary  then Club chairman, even looking after the Club shirts for many years and organising fund raising dinners

He became Club Secretary in 1986/87 season and, remarkably, 38 years later, he still holds that position today

As Club Secretary, he was responsible for a major reorganisation in the way the club functions moving from a unwieldy large General Committee to a Smaller Executive group with and small Club Committees.

He has been involved in nearly every facet of club management from Club finances, Treasurer, to being heavily involved in the redevelopment and building of the new clubhouse.

In short, Ken is integral to the smooth running of Morpeth RFC.

Ken had the honour of being Morpeth Club President for two seasons between1996-1998.

He became member of the Northumberland County Committee in 1991 as Assistant Secretary to Stuart Bainbridge and was soon asked to sit on several Committees, including Finance and Venue and was the Secretary of the Rugby committee. For a great many years has been Chairman of Northumberland Competitions and the Northumberland County Rep for the North of England Competitions.

Ken was further honoured by being asked to be the Northumberland County President 2015/2016.

Even today he isn’t resting on his laurels, and, as you can’t keep a good man down, Ken recently almost single handedly organised the wall of the 1974.75 clubhouse room and the international wall upstairs in the club. Furthermore, he has just about completed a book about the 1974/75 season.

Well done Ken !
