Job Description – Head Coach, Senior County Women
The Head Coach will lead the coaching team and will be appointed by and report directly to the Womens and Girls Director of Rugby and Deputy Director of Womens and Girls Rugby. This is an honorary role.
Roles and Responsibilities
- To lead the coaching team responsible for the Womens Senior County squad.
- Plan the coaching programme for the county campaign in line with the RFU Gill Burns Womens competition requirements, working with senior team management.
- Plan, prepare and deliver individual coaching sessions for the senior squad.
- Ensure that all sessions are focused and directed to offer an enjoyable experience at the end of the long league season.
- Evaluate all coaching sessions and games with the coaching team and players.
- Attend any trials, coaching sessions and matches as required.
- Mentor where required and advise Assistant coaches and players where appropriate.
- The Coach will have final say in team selection and be accountable to the Director and Deputy Director of Womens and Girls Rugby.
- Provide feedback to coaches and players.
Skills and Qualities
- Commitment and Enthusiasm – This position will require a degree of commitment during April and May each year involving evenings and some weekends for training and matches.
- Culture: The Head Coach sets the standards for the coaches, manager and squad.
- Planning: The Head Coach is directly responsible for planning the coaching programme for the county campaign.
- Leadership – The Head Coach sets an example and standards for the coaching team and squad. As such he/she will need to be able to inspire the coaching team and players to ensure that all involved maximize their potential.
- Delegation – The Head Coach needs to be able to delegate responsibility as required to the Manager and Assistant coaches to ensure their expertise is used effectively. This should include specific development opportunities to ensure successful succession planning for Assistants to develop into future Head Coaches.
- Team Work – The Head Coach needs to be able to work effectively with the players, coaches, management and other volunteers in the County, plus local club coaches.
