“Silent Sunday” – Sunday 2nd November

What is “Silent Sunday” ?
So the idea is to allow the players the chance to take the lead.
Give them space to develop and have a greater say in how the session or matches go tactics, selection, rules in fun training games etc.

For coaches and parents – aim is for you to relax and enjoy the rugby!

The only rule really is no shouting from the sidelines.

Obviously coaches can talk to players but at half times and where possible make this asking questions rather than giving instructions. Set them problems and allow them to come up with changes to tactics etc.

In match situation, coach still has to manage half game rule so will have to communicate with players – but that’s the only time coaches should be talking!

No coaches or parents to go onto the pitch at any time – 1st aiders only.

Applause allowed but try to not get too excited when tries are scored.

For the little ones ie the U6/U7/U8s, we appreciate that coaches will have to help the players and offer encouragement as many will be new to the game, but make sure everything said is positive – doesn’t matter if a player drops the ball or is in the wrong place. Keep it positive, keep the fun aspect and keep the encouragement coming! From U9s up we would expect the players to take more of a lead.

This is a County wide initiative – all teams, male and female U6 to U12, U13 to U16 boys and U12 to U18 girls are part of “Silent Sunday” this weekend. If you are playing teams from out of the County (Durham, Cumbria, Yorkshire, SRU teams), please let the coaches know before the weekend that the CB is doing this and that we would like the visiting team to buy into what we are doing.

Please do share feedback and videos in your respective age grade chats as we would love to hear how this goes.
